An Egypt Honeymoon in Luxury: How to Plan It

A luxury Egypt honeymoon works when the pace is slow: a dahabiya or small ship on the Nile, a night at the Old Cataract in Aswan and a few days on the Red Sea.

Feluccas and boats on the Nile at Aswan

Yes, when the pace is slow. A luxury Egypt honeymoon works as a few days in Cairo, three to five nights on a dahabiya or a small luxury ship between Esna or Luxor and Aswan, a night at a heritage hotel such as the Old Cataract in Aswan, and a few days on the Red Sea. November to February are the coolest months on the Nile.

Key takeaways

  • On the Nile, the site's dahabiya sails from Esna to Aswan in 5 nights; its cruises sail between Luxor and Aswan in 4 nights, or 3 from Aswan to Luxor inside longer journeys.
  • The Old Cataract in Aswan is open while renovation work continues; the Winter Palace in Luxor is closed for restoration until 2027.
  • Red Sea properties at the site's ultra-luxury level: The Oberoi Beach Resort Sahl Hasheesh, La Maison Bleue in El Gouna and the Four Seasons Resort Sharm El Sheikh.
  • Average highs in Luxor run from 23°C (73°F) in January to 41°C (106°F) in July.
  • Domestic flights and tips are not included in any journey on the site.

Why the pace decides an Egypt honeymoon

A honeymoon in Egypt works when there are fewer moves and more hours with nothing scheduled. The journeys on the site that are written for couples, or for an easy pace, build that rest in: the Nile and Red Sea journey has two free days at a Hurghada beach resort, and the dahabiya itinerary from Esna sets aside a whole day for sailing and swimming.

On land, the guide, the vehicle and the driver are for the two of you alone. Each journey's length, hotels and pace can be adjusted before you confirm, subject to availability, so a free afternoon or an extra night can go where you want it.

On the Nile: a dahabiya or a small luxury ship

Both suit a couple; they differ in size and rhythm. A dahabiya usually has between four and 10 cabins and sails with the wind. The Oberoi Philae, proposed on the site's 4-night cruises, has 22 cabins and suites, against the 50 to 150 passengers of a typical Nile cruise ship. The full comparison is in dahabiya or Nile cruise ship.

The Dahabiya from Esna to Aswan names couples among the travelers it suits: long hours on deck, a swim from a Nile island and sailing at sunset. Egypt by Dahabiya adds Cairo and Luxor to the river and lists a dinner by a campfire on the riverbank among its highlights. A whole dahabiya can be chartered for one group where a vessel is free for your dates; ask whether that can be arranged for a party of two.

A night in a palace hotel

A night ashore in one of the old palace hotels breaks up the days on the boat. In Aswan the site proposes the Old Cataract, which is open while renovation work continues; the proposal confirms it for your dates. In Luxor, the ultra-luxury level uses Al Moudira Hotel. The Winter Palace in Luxor is closed for restoration until 2027 and is not offered.

In Cairo, the Marriott Mena House stands by the pyramids. The Egypt's Palace Hotels journey is built around these stays: 4 nights at the Marriott Mena House, 1 night at the Old Cataract, 3 nights on a luxury Nile cruise with The Oberoi Zahra, or Sonesta St. George I, and 1 night in Luxor at Al Moudira Hotel. The site presents it for special occasions, with pyramid views from your room and a boat ride to a Nubian village.

A few days on the Red Sea

Ending on the coast gives the trip a quiet last stretch after the temples. The site's ultra-luxury level uses three Red Sea properties: The Oberoi Beach Resort Sahl Hasheesh, La Maison Bleue in El Gouna and the Four Seasons Resort Sharm El Sheikh.

The Egypt, the Nile and the Red Sea journey spends 3 nights on a five-star Nile cruise from Aswan to Luxor, on The Oberoi Zahra or Sonesta St. George I, then drives from Luxor to Hurghada for 3 nights at The Oberoi Beach Resort, Sahl Hasheesh, on an all-inclusive plan, with two free days by the sea. The flight from Hurghada back to Cairo is a domestic flight and is not included.

Snorkeling, diving and reef boat trips are optional tours, not included. The UK government's travel advice says the safety standards of Red Sea diving operators and boats vary considerably, so ask who runs any boat trip before you book it. At Sharm El Sheikh, the sea averages about 23°C (73°F) in January and 27.5°C (82°F) in October.

When to go

On the Nile, the cool months are the comfortable ones. From November to February, average highs in Luxor and Aswan stay between 23°C (73°F) and 29°C (84°F); from June to August they reach 41°C (106°F). Winter nights can be cool: Luxor's average January low is 6°C (43°F).

Christmas and New Year bring higher hotel and Nile-cruise occupancy in Luxor and Aswan, so a honeymoon over the holidays is worth requesting early. For the full year, see when to go to Egypt, month by month.

What the proposal includes, and what it does not

No prices are published. Every journey is quoted in a written proposal that names the route, the hotels and room types, any Nile vessel, what is included and what is not. If a suite with a terrace or a particular boat matters to you, ask for it by name so the proposal states it, and do not count on extras or upgrades the proposal does not list.

Domestic flights, for example Cairo to Luxor or Aswan to Cairo, are not included in any journey and are booked and paid separately. Tips are not included either. Sending a request through the contact page costs nothing and is not a booking; nothing is booked until you accept the proposal and it is confirmed in writing.

Questions travelers ask

How many days does a luxury Egypt honeymoon need?

The journeys on the site run from 5 to 11 days. For a honeymoon with both the Nile and some rest, the 10-day and 11-day journeys work well: they combine Cairo with 4 nights on a dahabiya, or 3 nights on a Nile cruise with 3 nights on the Red Sea. Any journey's length can be adjusted before you confirm. More in how many days you need in Egypt.

Can we have a dahabiya to ourselves?

A dahabiya is shared with its other guests unless your group charters the whole boat. A whole dahabiya can be chartered for one group where a vessel is free for your dates, and the route between Esna and Aswan stays the same. The Nour El Nil journey offers a cabin or the whole boat; each Nour El Nil boat has 10 rooms and suites, so ask how a charter for two is arranged.

Is Egypt safe for a honeymoon?

Check your own government's current advice before you book. The US State Department rates Egypt Level 2, Exercise Increased Caution, citing terrorism, crime and health (issued July 2025). The UK's FCDO travel advice, updated 4 August 2026, excepts Luxor, Aswan, Abu Simbel and the Valley of the Kings from its warning on the area west of the Nile Valley. More in whether Egypt is safe to visit.

Can we stay at the Winter Palace in Luxor?

Not at present. The Winter Palace in Luxor is closed for restoration until 2027, so it is not offered. In Luxor the ultra-luxury level uses Al Moudira Hotel, and the Luxury journeys propose Hilton Luxor Resort & Spa, with Al Moudira Hotel or Sonesta St. George Hotel Luxor as alternatives. In Aswan, the Old Cataract is open while renovation work continues.

Which Red Sea resorts does the site propose?

At the ultra-luxury level: The Oberoi Beach Resort Sahl Hasheesh, La Maison Bleue in El Gouna and the Four Seasons Resort Sharm El Sheikh. The Luxury journeys propose The Oberoi Beach Resort Sahl Hasheesh, and both 11-day journeys with the coast spend 3 nights there on an all-inclusive plan, with the flight from Hurghada back to Cairo booked and paid separately.

Which month is coolest for a Nile honeymoon?

January. The average high is 23°C (73°F) in both Luxor and Aswan, and Luxor's average low is 6°C (43°F). December and February are close, at 24°C to 25°C in both cities. In July, highs in both reach 41°C (106°F). Christmas and New Year bring higher hotel and Nile-cruise occupancy, so request holiday dates early.
