The journey

Cairo's pyramids, then the Nile from Luxor to Aswan

  • Pyramids of Giza and the Sphinx with an Egyptologist
  • Short camel ride on the Giza Plateau
  • Karnak's Hypostyle Hall and Luxor Temple
  • Valley of the Kings and Hatshepsut's temple
  • Carriage ride to the Temple of Horus at Edfu
  • Boat ride to the Temple of Isis at Philae

Cairo opens the journey. A private Egyptologist guide takes you across the Giza Plateau to the pyramids of Cheops, Chephren and Mykerinus and the Sphinx, with a short camel ride, and then on to the Egyptian Museum.

A flight brings you to Luxor and your five-star Nile cruise, home for four nights. You walk through Karnak and Luxor Temple, visit the Valley of the Kings and Hatshepsut's temple, and stop at Edfu, Kom Ombo and Philae before flying back to Cairo. All touring and transfers on land are private. A Luxor hot air balloon ride and a Nubian village visit are available as options.

  • First visit You want the classic sites of Cairo, Luxor and Aswan in eight well-paced days.
  • Cruise lovers You like to unpack once for four nights and let the Nile carry you between temples.
  • Private travel You prefer your own guide and vehicle for every excursion on land.

Day by day

The itinerary, as a starting point.

Day01

Arrival in Cairo

Our representative meets you at Cairo International Airport and helps you through the arrival formalities. A private car then takes you to your hotel in Cairo. Once you have checked in, the rest of the day is free. Take it slowly after the flight and settle into your room before the days ahead on the Nile.

Day02

The Pyramids of Giza and the Egyptian Museum

After breakfast, your private Egyptologist guide accompanies you to the Giza Plateau. You see the Great Pyramid of Cheops up close, along with those of Chephren and Mykerinus, then the Sphinx and the Valley Temple. A short camel ride gives you a view over the desert and the pyramids. Later you continue to the Egyptian Museum in Cairo, filled with masterpieces from ancient Egypt. Lunch is served at a local restaurant with Egyptian cooking before you return to your hotel.

Day03

Fly to Luxor and board your Nile cruise

After breakfast and check-out, a private car takes you to Cairo Airport, and you fly to Luxor. On arrival you are escorted to your five-star Nile cruise, where lunch is served on board. In the afternoon your guide leads you to the East Bank. At Karnak, a complex of temples raised over generations, you walk through the great Hypostyle Hall. You continue to Luxor Temple; the Avenue of Sphinxes once tied it to Karnak. Dinner and the night are on board in Luxor.

Day04

Luxor's West Bank and the sail to Edfu

Breakfast is on board, then you set out for Luxor's West Bank. In the Valley of the Kings, pharaohs such as Tutankhamun were laid to rest in richly decorated tombs. Next is Hatshepsut's temple at Deir El Bahari, cut into the cliffs. Your last stop is the Colossi of Memnon, two huge statues that have stood over Thebes for millennia. Lunch is served back on board, and the ship sails south toward Edfu. Dinner follows on the ship. A Luxor hot air balloon ride is available as an optional extra.

After breakfast, a horse-drawn carriage takes you to the Temple of Horus at Edfu, a Ptolemaic temple devoted to the falcon god. The ship then sails on to Kom Ombo while lunch is served on board. In the afternoon you reach Kom Ombo Temple, dedicated to two gods at once: the crocodile god Sobek and Horus the Elder. Note its symmetrical plan, the display of ancient surgical tools and the mummified crocodiles. Dinner is on board as the cruise continues toward Aswan.
